Bio & Experience
Coach Hutton returns for his third season with the Queen City Royals. Michael “Hutty” Hutton, originally from Royal Oak, Michigan, began his hockey playing career at age six after his family had relocated to North Carolina, where he skated every day at the local ice rink that was in a mall. Hutton went on to play hockey for the next 15 years, from youth all the way to Junior A level. Growing up, Hutton went to two summer sessions at Michigan State University Hockey training camp, Darren Turcotte Stickhandling training camp, and Robby Glantz Power Skating Hockey camp. After playing for multiple years, Hutton was a five time North and South Carolina State Games Gold Medalist, Participated at Hockey Night in Boston (Team South East) and the Chicago Showcase (Team South East). Shortly after, competing in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program camps (Under 16 and 17), and then playing Tier 1 AAA Midgets with the Soo Indians and Soo Hawks for the next few seasons in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Then played, Junior A in the American Western Hockey League with the Bismarck Bobcats in Bismarck, North Dakota, and the following season with the Texas Tornado North American Hockey League in Dallas, Texas. After an unfortunate automobile accident at age 20 from a tire blowout traveling to the Tornado training camp that ended Hutton’s hockey-playing career, he dove into coaching.
